I’ve been having a ton of chats with founders these days as awareness about the Studio model has picked up. It’s not only entrepreneurs who find themselves interested in the wild world of Venture Studios - I’m finding corporate professionals, academics, and university students are among some of the most curious.
From these chats, I’m starting to notice two distinct patterns.
They know what Studios do, but not how they fit into the picture.
They want to know which Studio is right for their specific goals.
These potential EIR candidates are asking questions like:
What does the “hiring process” at a Studio look like?
What stage does my startup need to be at to fit with the Venture Studio model?
What are the critical resources I should expect from a Studio?
What would be a better fit: joining the core team or a portfolio venture?
The best thing you can do to position your Studio for success is to answer these kinds of questions up front- either on your website or in blog articles.
It’s important to help EIR candidates “self select” into your Studio.
If you’re focused on a particular niche and looking for a candidate with a specific background, you should say that and be loud about it. Just the same as startups can’t be for everyone, Studios can’t be either. Differentiation is key in this new era.
