Rookridge Ventures published a strong breakdown this week on the Studio-VC Hybrid model—arguing that pairing a Venture Studio with a traditional VC fund is driving higher returns, faster timelines, and better success rates. The data is compelling.
Honestly, I’m surprised we don’t see more VC firms morphing into this model.
They already have deal flow, capital, networks, talent access, and infrastructure.
They have exactly what most studios spend years trying to acquire.
And yet very few firms lean into actually building companies.
At the same time, I don’t think the Hybrid model is as simple as it sounds.
Yes, VCs are well-positioned… but execution is an entirely different story.
Running a studio requires discipline, systems, incentives, and an operational engine most VC firms aren’t built for.
But that’s why posts like this one matter—they help the industry get under the hood and talk honestly about the future of the space. Not just the upside, but the operational realities, trade-offs, and structural decisions that make or break it.
